Huey Lewis & The News have inked a deal with BMG to record their first album of original songs since 2001’s Plan B. We’re very excited about our new album, and honestly feel that it’s among our best work – we cannot wait to get it out to fans! Lewis said in a statement. We’re equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a ‘music-first’ label precedes them admirably
In 1979, the band's name was Huey Lewis and the American Express.
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself. The occurrence of these rambling monologues during Bateman’s more indulgent and depraved moments illustrates the breakdown in his psyche and his loss of self-control at those times – his manic, psychotic urge to kill is matched by his manic, psychotic urge to fit in and the two spiral out of control and spill out at once during these moments, resulting in what.
The members chose Huey Lewis & the News and the band's eponymous debut was released later that year to little attention. Picture This, the group's second album, was released early in 1982 and the record became a hit on the strength of the Top Ten single "Do You Believe in Love," which was written by former Clover producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The band returned with its fourth album, Fore!, in 1986. The record sailed to number one on the strength of five Top Ten singles: "Stuck with You" (number one, 1986), "Hip to Be Square" (number three, 1986), "Jacob's Ladder" (number one, 1987), "I Know What I Like" (number nine, 1987), and "Doing It All for My Baby" (number six, 1987). Huey Lewis & the News were riding high on the charts when they decided to expand their musical reach with 1988's Small World, dipping tentatively into various American roots musics.
