Cenotaph (Bass Communion album). The album varies from the vinyl version to the CD version but primarily consists of four 20-minute tracks which according to Wilson are "closest in style to previous albums such as Ghosts on Magnetic Tape and Loss, but looser in a way". The album was recorded during the same sessions as Steven Wilson's second solo album Grace for Drowning,. and was used in place of an opening act for shows on the 2011-2012 Grace for Drowning tour. The album was mixed differently for vinyl than CD versions in that the latter makes more use of rhythm, while the vinyl mix is more ambient

Cenotaph (Bass Communion album). Cenotaph is the ninth studio album released by British musician, songwriter and producer Steven Wilson under the pseudonym Bass Communion. The album varies from the vinyl version to the CD version but primarily consists of four 20-minute tracks which according to Wilson are "closest in style to previous albums such as Ghosts on Magnetic Tape and Loss, but looser in a way"

Bass Communion, being a Steven Wilson project, is always on my list of projects to listen to when a new album is released. So far the music hasn't lived up to my expectations but the attempt at creating dreamy soundscapes is usually respectable, which is the case of Cenotaph. Described as a sequel to the mysterious and relatively enjoyable Ghosts On Magnetic Tape, I can't really see how this is much of a sequel at all besides being entirely ambient and fairly dark.

As Steven puts it himself: "It's a very dark and spectral album, four 20 minute clouds of brooding drones, perhaps closest in style to previous albums such as Ghosts on Magnetic Tape and Loss, but looser in a way. Tonefloat.

I can confirm that blammoAMS's comment is correct. The vinyl version of this album is no more 'ambient' than the CD version but the mixes ARE different. Of the two I actually prefer the CD edition which is something I genuinely wasn't expecting to be honest.
Kendis
just a quickscan comparison of the two editions: citadel - beatless on vinylcarrion - same, but a minute longer on vinyl (22:16)cenotaph - beatless on cdconflux - both with beats (record version 15secs longer) but cd version has extra layer of sound. so, the remark about rhythm/ambient orientations (tf116) seems to be a bit off...
